THE CHALLENGE

WHAT CHANGED IN BELGIUM?
Since 1 January 2026, structured electronic invoicing is mandatory for B2B transactions between Belgian VAT-liable businesses within scope of the reform. A PDF sent by email is no longer considered a compliant invoice.
Belgium uses the Peppol network — generally the Peppol BIS format — to exchange these structured invoices directly between accounting and invoicing systems.
In practice, for your stable this mainly means how invoices are sent and received, not how you run your day-to-day business. Equicty handles the technical part for you.

The most common questions Belgian stable owners ask us about Peppol and mandatory e-invoicing.
Is e-invoicing mandatory in Belgium in 2026?
Yes. From 1 January 2026, structured electronic invoicing is mandatory for B2B transactions between Belgian VAT-liable businesses within scope of the reform.
What is Peppol?
Peppol is the network used to exchange structured electronic invoices directly between businesses' accounting and invoicing systems, rather than by PDF or email.
Can I still send a PDF invoice by email?
For in-scope B2B transactions, no — a PDF or email invoice is no longer considered compliant once the obligation applies. Equicty sends and receives structured Peppol invoices for you.
Do I need new accounting software to comply?
Not with Equicty. Peppol e-invoicing is integrated directly into the stable-management environment you already use — there's no separate system to learn or connect.
Does this apply to my stable?
It depends on your business structure and VAT status. As a general rule, B2B invoicing between Belgian VAT-liable businesses is in scope; some exceptions exist, so check your specific situation against the official government guidance above.
How do I activate e-invoicing in Equicty?
Log in to your existing Equicty account, activate electronic invoicing via Peppol in a few clicks, and you're ready to send and receive.
